A word for
a familiar form.

Fields tend to develop their own shorthand. A single word can stand in for something that would otherwise take a sentence to explain. When people speak of a compound delivered in liposomal form, they are pointing at a category that has been around for a long time, even if the language for it is still settling.

Lipoceutical is one such word. It joins two older ones: lipo, from the Greek for lipid (the family of fats and phospholipids from which living membranes are composed), and -ceutical, the suffix that comes from the language of formulation. Put together, they point to a compound considered alongside the liposomal form it has been given.

No one invented the liposome, and no single brand owns the idea. Lipoceutical is simply a term Codeage finds useful, among others, for talking about formulas built in this way.

What a liposome
actually is.

A liposome is a microscopic sphere. Its wall is built from phospholipids, molecules with a water-loving head and two water-avoiding tails. Placed in a watery environment, phospholipids arrange themselves, without instruction, into a closed double layer: heads turned outward toward the water, tails folded inward toward one another. The result is a hollow, spherical membrane.

This is not an exotic invention. It is the same class of molecule, and the same architecture, from which the membranes of living cells are composed. The phospholipid is one of biology's oldest structural motifs, the boundary that separates inside from outside, drawn in fat.

Within that sphere, a compound can be held. The liposome becomes a vessel: an enclosure of the same material as a cell's own outer layer, formed around the ingredient it accompanies. When Codeage describes a formula as liposomal, this is the structure being referred to: a phospholipid envelope, most often drawn from non-GMO sunflower lecithin, surrounding the active it carries.

01 · The Envelope

A double layer of phospholipids, the same structural material as a cell membrane. In Codeage formulas this phospholipid complex, the Codeage Helix, is derived from non-GMO sunflower lecithin and includes phosphatidylcholine.

02 · The Core

The interior of the sphere, where the chosen compound is held: a single glutathione, a coenzyme such as NAD+, a mineral, an antioxidant. The core defines the formula; the envelope defines the form.

03 · The Origin

Phospholipids are among the founding molecules of biological structure. To present a compound in a liposomal form is to present it inside an architecture the body has always been built from.

Form as
a matter of standard.

In any careful craft, the question is never only what is used, but how it is presented. A material is chosen, then a form is chosen for it. The two decisions are separate, and both matter.
